HHA Board approves new Safety Rule regulating maximum allowable boat length in HHA slips.

Beginning on July 1, 2023, all boats docked in HHA slips must be no longer than 110% of the length of the slip.

The text of the new Rule is as follows:

The total boat length of any boat moored, docked or occupying a unit owned by a Hessel Harbor Association member may not exceed the length of the unit by more than 10% of the length of that unit. Total boat length includes the boat proper and all items attached or belonging to it, including all motors, engines or propulsion devices, swim platforms, rescue vessels or recreational craft, bow anchors, jackstaffs or bowsprits, or other accessories. No part of the 10% allowable overage – if present – may encroach over the common walkways or limit free and unobstructed access to all common areas owned by the Hessel Harbor Association.

In practical terms, this means that a 20-foot slip may accommodate a boat up to 22 feet in total length. For a 30-foot slip, the maximum boat length will be 33 feet, the 40-foot slips may have boats up to 44 feet in total length. Length is calculated as total length, including all motors, bow accessories, and so on. For more detail, see the attached announcement below. It was sent to all HHA members on May 31, 2023.

The new Rule goes into effect July 1, 2023.
